Digital Photography

Dick Roberts Studio has always been on the cutting edge of technology and continues to stay ahead of the competition by doing what is current and new, rather than to settle into what is comfortable. While other photographers are

polishing their skills with what has been, (we’ve already done that) Dick Roberts is shinning his talent with what will be. Be it digital photography, digital imaging, digital videography, or non-linear digital computer editing, we are always there to learn more and be involved.

Digital is here to stay and there will be a day when we will be a film-less society. Don't allow yourself to make a decision about film vs. digital comparing a professional digital camera to an across the counter consumer model.  There is no comparison.  I will show you samples of prints from digital  compared to prints from film negatives and you will not be able to tell the differe.  If anything the prints done from digital will be better because they can be enhanced.  See my page on computer enhancement.  I can do things with digital enhancing that we were never able to do in darkroom manipulation.  And I was professionally trained to work in a darkroom.  Digital prints are now done with a wet process the same as negative processing.  The difference is that one is printed from light through a negative and the other is done with an electronic computer imaging process to get it to the processor.  The paper and process is very similar, and the lasting results are equally as good with either one.  We also do digital printing to archive your prints for longer lasting.  We can also put them into coffee table books that are custom made just for you.

Dick Roberts speaks – "Periodically I attend Professional Photographers seminars and about two years ago I was at one and when asked, 10% of the professional photographers said they were doing some form of digital photography on a professional level. A few months ago, I went to a similar seminar and when asked 25% were now doing digital photography. The main reason for this increase is the advancement of technology. It is becoming more possible for professionals (with the proper equipment) doing digital photography to output as good a quality as film.

We now do all of our intimate/romantic beach weddings with digital flash card film using the Nikon D-2X.  In the past we did all of our larger weddings with medium format cameras and film.  However, now we are offering a wedding package photographed with digital flash card film, using a Nikon D-2X, for larger weddings for those who would like to have a more photojournalistic approach to their wedding and more images taken without increasing the cost of package prices. We will also put all of the images on a CD which will archive the images permanently. Film is not permanent.

For those who are ready to step into the future---
Dick Roberts Studio is ready to take you there.

The thing about digital that many people are not aware of, is that quality can be built up in the computer, film is film. You either get a good exposure or a bad exposure. Digital has many ways of producing an end product. When being used on the internet, resolution needs to be be kept low. If used to make high quality photographs the information and resolution captured by the digital camera can be enhanced through computer manipulation. The question isn’t so much film vs. digital, as it is what type of camera is being used to capture the digital information that will be put into the computer to make the prints.

Dick Roberts Studio has always used the finest equipment available. We have always used medium format rather than 35mm, and now we are stepping into the digital age with the finest digital camera available for event photography.

The Nikon D-2X is more than a camera,
It is a Computerized Digital Photographic System.

The Nikon D-2X is a top of the line Nikon, designed specifically for Professional Photographers
to take digital images. Although it is built around the successful Nikon F-5 35mm body,
the large digital chips (11+ MP) produce an enormous image size and ultimately a very high quality
photograph. It may look like a 35mm, but because of technology, the results can be far greater.

When we do your wedding or event at our regular package price you will get all of the images on a CD for your keeping along with all reprint rights.  You will also be able to put the images onto thank you cards, newsletters, letterheads, internet, announcements, etc.  This is a wonderful way to show your photographs.

High quality reprints will still be available from our professional lab
All photographs that we reprint will be hand cropped and enhanced to bring out
the true beauty of the photograph.
You can have a choice of changing the image
from color to black and white, brown-tone, or blue-tone at no extra charge.
Teeth will be whitened and light retouching will be done.
Notice our page on
computer enhancement.
